    Mission & Vision

    Mission Statement:

At Muna Kalati, our mission is to foster diversity, equity, and inclusivity in the global cultural landscape, with a focus on the children’s book industry. We are dedicated to promoting African children’s literature and empowering young readers by providing access to culturally-relevant resources and information. Through our digital platforms, publishing services, advocacy campaigns, and workshops, we strive to facilitate intercultural communication, improve literacy, and inspire children to become global citizens and changemakers. We are committed to reducing ethnocentrism, eurocentrism, and stereotypes by promoting diverse books and fostering international understanding in an increasingly complex society.

    Vision Statement:

Our vision is to create a vibrant and inclusive world of children’s literature where every child has access to diverse and engaging books that reflect their realities and nurture their imaginations. We aim to breathe life into children’s books and make them an integral part of young people’s lives. With our passion for the African children’s book industry, our commitment to fairness, integrity, and support, and our belief in the power of diversity, we strive to promote African video games and reading pleasure. Through research and collaboration, we seek to enhance the visibility of video game industry players in Africa, contribute to the legitimization of children’s books, and foster the growth and development of the video game ecosystem in Africa.

    Objectives:

    1. Increase Accessibility: Work towards improving access to diverse children’s books and video games, both in terms of content and availability, ensuring that young people have greater opportunities to engage with culturally-relevant resources.
    2. Promote African Children’s Literature: Actively support and promote African children’s literature, authors, illustrators, and publishers, highlighting the richness and diversity of African storytelling traditions and narratives.
    3. Empower Young Readers: Empower children and young readers by fostering a love for reading, encouraging critical thinking, and providing platforms for their voices to be heard and valued in the literary and gaming communities.
    4. Foster Intercultural Communication: Facilitate intercultural communication and understanding by promoting dialogue, collaboration, and exchange between different literary and gaming traditions, bridging gaps and promoting empathy among young readers globally.
    5. Enhance Literacy and Educational Impact: Collaborate with educators, schools, and educational institutions to integrate diverse children’s literature and video games into curricula, promoting literacy, critical literacy skills, and cultural awareness.
    6. Research and Advocacy: Conduct research to advance the understanding and importance of children’s literature and video games, advocating for their inclusion in educational policies and fostering the growth and recognition of the industry in Africa.
    7. Engage with Industry Stakeholders: Collaborate with authors, illustrators, publishers, librarians, educators, and other stakeholders to develop initiatives, events, and programs that promote the production, distribution, and accessibility of high-quality children’s literature and video games.
    8. Amplify African Voices: Amplify the voices and perspectives of African authors, illustrators, and creators within the global literary and gaming communities, providing them with platforms for recognition, exposure, and professional development.
    9. Cultivate a Community of Readers: Build a supportive community of readers by organizing workshops, book fairs, reading programs, and online discussions, encouraging dialogue, sharing recommendations, and fostering a love for reading among children and families.
    10. Sustainable Growth: Strive for sustainable growth and organizational development by diversifying funding sources, fostering partnerships with like-minded organizations, and expanding outreach efforts to reach more children and communities across Africa and the diaspora.
